AURA’s Network: By Pilots, For Pilots
AURA’s airwaves are uniquely licensed by the FCC to provide ground-to-air connectivity nationwide. As the next generation of aviation readies for takeoff, AURA’s network will enable safe and reliable integration into the national airspace.
AURA operates a nationwide network offering air-ground radio service for private use cases today, and it is building the only FAA-compliant network providing command and control (C2) and air traffic control (ATC) voice solutions for UAVs to fly beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) in the National Airspace System (NAS). Our network will support relay of ATC voice communications from remote pilots on the ground to air traffic controllers. This will enable ATC, as well as nearby crewed aircraft, to have the situational awareness needed for safe integration of UAVs in the NAS. We are partnering with government and industry stakeholders to expand and optimize our network.

Key Network Attributes
-
450 MHz FCC Aviation-Licensed Spectrum
AURA’s spectrum has strong propagation characteristics for aviation and has no altitude restrictions.
-
Ultra-Reliable Radio Link
Network radio link enables continuous monitoring and control of UAV for flight operations.
-
Privacy & Security
The private network avoids connections to the internet, preserving data privacy while securing UAV from hostile actors.
-
Secure, Deterministic Signal
Unlike other service offerings, AURA’s network provides point-to-point connectivity for air-to-ground C2 communications.
-
Extremely Low Latency
Network architecture optimized for low latency communication.
-
Customer-Led Buildout
Locations of our macro and small sites are driven by customer requirements. Micro sites (“AURA Go Kits”) can provide supplemental coverage.
-
Regulatory Compliance
AURA’s regulatory-compliant network will enable certification of next-generation aviation.
-
ATC Voice
AURA’s network will provide ATC voice solutions essential for UAVs and BVLOS flights in the NAS.
Commercial Network Architecture
Our private, commercial network is designed to meet FAA regulatory requirements for enabling Command Non-Payload Communications (CNPC):
Command and Control (C2)
Air Traffic Control (ATC) Voice
Airborne Detect and Avoid (DAA)
Flight-Critical Telemetry Data
Weather and Airspace Hazards Data
